Best hair routine for 4c hair

Daily Care

Your 4C hair loves moisture, so the goal every day is to keep it hydrated and protected.

  • Start by lightly spritzing your hair with water or a water-based leave-in conditioner.
  • After that, seal the moisture in with a natural oil like jojoba, castor, or avocado oil.
  • If your hair is out, consider putting it into a simple protective style (like twists, buns, or braids) to keep it from getting tangled or dry.
  • At night, sleep with a satin or silk bonnet or scarf—or even a satin pillowcase—to protect your hair while you sleep.

Weekly Routine

Once a week, it’s time for a good wash day.

  • Use a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo to cleanse your scalp and hair. If your hair doesn’t feel super dirty, you can even co-wash (wash with conditioner only) instead.
  • Follow up with a deep conditioner—something moisturizing and rich. Let it sit in your hair for about 20–30 minutes. If you can, add heat with a steamer or even just a shower cap to help it soak in better.
  • While the conditioner is in, detangle gently with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb. Don’t rush this part—4C hair is delicate when wet.

Every Two Weeks

About every two weeks, you’ll want to give your hair a little protein boost.

  • A light protein treatment helps strengthen your strands and prevent breakage. You can buy one (like Aphogee or Mielle), or make your own with ingredients like eggs and mayo if you’re into DIY.
  • Always follow up protein with moisture—deep condition afterward to balance everything out.

Monthly Maintenance

Once a month, it’s time to hit reset.

  • Use a clarifying shampoo to get rid of product buildup (especially if you use a lot of oils, creams, and gels).
  • After clarifying, your hair might feel a bit stripped, so bring the moisture back with a deep conditioner.

Extra Tips

  • Scalp health matters. Massage your scalp with peppermint oil, tea tree oil, or even plain castor oil to stimulate growth and reduce dryness.
  • Trim your ends every 3–4 months to avoid split ends traveling up your strands.
  • Don’t over-manipulate. The less you mess with your hair, the more it will thrive. Let it rest in protective styles when you can.
